Anderson Street, Chatswood

Drew Dickson Architects was announced the winner of a design competition for a mixed use building by Willoughby Council. The winning concept responds to the local character of the heritage and conservation area, the future skyrise neighbourhood, and the future identity of Anderson Street, Chatswood.

The design optimises the opportunities of this unique triangle island site and consists of a commercial podium, communal indoor and outdoor spaces and a striking floating residential tower, opening up to panoramic views to the east.

The external material and colour pallet echoes the vitality of the terracotta and red brick houses located at the Northern Chatswood’s heritage and conservation area.

The design aim was to explore a new sky home typologies and shared work spaces that provide an alternative office environment for the local communities.

“The Drew Dickson Architects Design was a unique response to the brief, with a core theme focused on achieving a slender tower form. This was achieved by making the singular structure appear to be two separate towers. This was further emphasised through the use of differing (but complimentary) external materials and different top and bottom starting and finishing heights for the two “visually distinguishable” towers. The design appears to represent an excellent response to the constraints of the site within its local context and is also an excellent response to the brief.”
